What you'll Need

  • Folding Wig Stand
  • Wide tooth Comb
  • Synthetic or Human hair shampoo
  • Synthetic or Human hair conditioner
  • Towel

Step 1: Detangle
It is important to gently comb through the hair with a wide tooth comb to reduce tangles before you wash. Begin at the ends and move up to the root to minimize shedding.

Step 2: Rinse
Begin with lukewarm water and make sure to wash your hair from the roots to the ends. Refrain from fully soaking or vigorously scrubbing your hair, as this can lead to tangles.
Tip: If your wig is curly, try leaving the hairnet on.

Step 3: Shampoo
Put a small quantity of shampoo in your hands and rub them together. Work the shampoo through your hair, making sure it is distributed evenly.
Tip: Use circular motions to clean the cap.

Step 4a: Condition Synthetic Hair
Apply a leave-in conditioning product from the middle of your hair to the tips.
Tip: Avoid the root or knots.

Step 4b: Condition Human Hair
Leave in for a few minutes before rinsing. Do NOT apply conditioner to the root. By applying conditioner to the roots, the product will undo the knots in the cap and cause loss of fiber.
Tip: If dry or damaged, use a deep conditioner.

Step 5: Rinse
Allow lukewarm water to move alongside the hair to prevent knots. Pat and press the hair instead of wringing it.
Tip: Towel blot to remove excess water.

Step 6a: Dry Synthetic Hair
Allow the wig to air-dry while resting on a collapsible stand. For best results, use a comb to separate the hair as it is drying.

Step 6b: Dry Human Hair
Blow dry about 80% and then round brush until smooth.
